#2 Son

Remember the old Charlie Chan films where he always had his “Numba One Son”? Henry Oswald Lee Chan was the oldest of 14 children Charlie and his wife. (He was also played on screen by Keye Luke.)

Yes, Charlie was actually a very famous detective during the early 20th century before becoming a movie star.

It was always #1 son that I recall from those little movies. But there was a #2 son as well. I won’t get into all the actors who played Jimmy…it gets to be a little complicated.

Right now in my world I have a #1 Son and a #2 Son. Neither of which I actually gave birth to.

How Does This Happen?

Women Over 40 So Rock

When I turned 40 I was told 40 is the new 30. Now that I’m well into my 40s, looking at 50, I am happy to hear 50 is the new 40! I hope 60 becomes the new 20 when I get there.

I had the “we’re middle aged” conversation with my dear friend Jill – who I have been friends with since I was 5. When I told her we were middle aged women she snapped back. “We are NOT”. I explained we were in our mid 40s and asked how long she intended to live. I mean 90 is pretty long even in human years. So yeah, we were middle aged.

So to Jill and my other life long friends who share my middle agedness…I present these words of wisdom and affection from Andy Rooney.

As I grow in age, I value women who are over forty most of all. Here are just a few reasons why: A woman over forty will never wake you in the middle of the night to ask, “What are you thinking?” She doesn’t care what you think.

If a woman over forty doesn’t want to watch the game, she doesn’t sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do. And, it’s usually something more interesting.

A woman over forty knows herself well enough to be assured in who she is, what she is, what she wants and from whom. Few women past the age of forty give a hoot what you might think about her or what she’s doing.

Women over forty are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won’t hesitate to shoot you, if they think they can get away with it.

Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it’s like to be unappreciated.

A woman over forty has the self-assurance to introduce you to her women friends. A younger woman with a man will often ignore even her best friend because she doesn’t trust the guy with other women. Women over forty couldn’t care less if you’re attracted to her friends because she knows her friends won’t betray her.

Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over forty. They always know.

A woman over forty looks good wearing bright red lipstick. This is not true of younger women. Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over forty is far sexier than her younger counterpart.

Older women are forthright and honest. They’ll tell you right off if you are a jerk, if you are acting like one! You don’t ever have to wonder where you stand with her.

Yes, we praise women over forty for a multitude of reasons. Unfortunately, it’s not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed hot woman of forty-plus, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some twenty-two-year-old waitress.

Ladies, I apologize.

For all those men who say, “Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free,” here’s an update for you. Now 80 percent of women are against marriage, why? Because women realize it’s not worth buying an entire pig, just to get a little sausage.

A Woman’s House Is Her Castle

Several years ago I spent my birthday in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Actually in a small little cabin about 10 miles outside of town. The Ozarks in the Fall is the most amazing place. Filled with beautiful leaves and fall colors and sweatshirt weather and warm soups and all things comfy it was a terrific vacaion.

I could have stayed forever. But real life called and I had to leave the ideal setting and return to my small townhome and job.

But now I believe I have found my retirment home in that neck of the woods. I may need to work some overtime.

If you’re in the mood for an opulent and unique home, but a $12 million private island isn’t your style, then Castle Rogue’s Manor might be right up your medieval alley. Located overlooking White River in Eureka Springs, Ark., this 15,000 square-foot castle sports 12 bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, 17 acres of land, and a $1.8 million price-tag. It is also a castle, just like the name implies.

Amazing Stop Action Animation

I am a freak about stop action animation. I never could master it in any of the art and film classes I took to get my degree, So when I see stuff like this I try to celebrate it.

Okay, forget that the subject matter is a bit odd. But the animation is freakin’ amazing.

This is done over about a 7 month period. It’s stop action – meaning every move on the wall, sidewalk etc must be erased and redrawn then one click of film and repeated to make the movement – animation and totally blew me away.
